Motion Pro JIS Cross Point 1/4" Hex-Drive Bits - #1, #2, #3 in 2 Packs

Every mechanic who works on Japanese motorcycles or ATVs eventually learns a painful lesson: a Phillips screwdriver and a JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screw are a recipe for stripped hardware. While they look nearly identical to the naked eye, Phillips drivers are intentionally designed to "cam out" or slip under heavy torque. JIS screws are designed to be gripped tightly without slipping. If you are tired of mangling the soft screws on your carburetor bowls, master cylinder caps, and handlebar switch housings, upgrading to genuine JIS bits is mandatory.

These Motion Pro JIS Cross-Point bits feature a standard 1/4-inch hex base, allowing you to instantly convert any magnetic bit driver, shop T-handle, or low-torque electric driver into a precision Japanese hardware tool. Sold in convenient 2-packs so you always have a spare in your toolbox, they are available in #1, #2, and #3 sizes to ensure you have the exact right fitment for any fastener on your Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, or Suzuki.

Features:

  • The JIS Advantage: Bits are precisely machined to bottom out perfectly inside Japanese hardware, completely eliminating the dreaded "cam-out" effect that destroys soft steel and brass screws.

  • Universal 1/4" Hex Base: Designed to drop perfectly into any standard 1/4" magnetic bit holder, including the Motion Pro T-Handle Bit Driver (08-0557) or your favorite ratcheting screwdriver.

  • Premium Tool Steel: Forged from high-grade, heat-treated tool steel to withstand repetitive high-torque loads without the bit tips twisting, shearing, or dulling over time.

  • Convenient 2-Packs: Because 1/4" bits are notoriously easy to drop and lose in the depths of a crowded garage, Motion Pro packages these in pairs so you always have a backup ready to go.

JIS Size Guide & Fitment:

Choosing the correct bit size is just as important as using a JIS bit in the first place. If the bit wobbles in the screw head, size up.

  • No. 1 JIS (08-0576): Used for very small hardware. Common on gauge clusters, delicate electronic housings, and tiny internal carburetor components.

  • No. 2 JIS (08-0577): The most common size on a motorcycle. Used for brake master cylinder caps, float bowls, handlebar switchgear, and general bodywork fasteners.

  • No. 3 JIS (08-0578): Used for large, heavy-duty fasteners. Common on older Japanese engine side cases, stator covers, and structural mounts.

Notes on JIS screws:

  • How to Identify a JIS Screw: Before you reach for a standard Phillips screwdriver, look closely at the head of the screw. Genuine JIS hardware usually features a single, tiny "dimple" or punch mark stamped into the metal just off to the side of the cross slot. If you see that dot, put the Phillips down immediately and grab the correct JIS drive bit.
  • The two most common places riders strip out JIS screws are carburetor float bowls and front brake master cylinder reservoir caps. These screws are often made of soft alloys and are subjected to extreme heat cycling and chemical exposure, making them seize easily. The T-Handle design is critical here: use one hand to push straight down on the top of the "T" with a lot of force, and use your other hand to gently turn the handle. This downward pressure keeps the bit fully seated in the shallow JIS grooves while breaking the stiction.
