Yuasa - YTX20H-BS AGM Maintenance Free Battery

Yuasa YTX20H-BS AGM Maintenance Free Powersports Battery

The Yuasa YTX20H-BS (YUAM62RBH) is a high-performance Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) 12-volt battery engineered to deliver maximum cold cranking amperage for large-displacement V-twins, touring motorcycles, ATVs, and snowmobiles. High-compression engines and cold-weather starting place heavy instantaneous electrical loads on the starting system, which can cause standard flooded or standard-grade batteries to experience severe voltage drops and accelerated plate deterioration.

The "H" designation denotes Yuasa's High Performance specification, utilizing a radial grid design with additional internal lead-calcium plates to deliver 310 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA)—over 15% more starting power than standard YTX20-BS batteries. The Absorbed Glass Mat design features micro-fiberglass separators that hold the electrolyte against the plates, eliminating free liquid inside the case. This construction provides resistance to engine vibration, prevents acid stratification, and ensures a leak-proof, non-spillable seal once activated. The battery ships with a pre-measured electrolyte pack (Bottle Supplied), maintaining 100% factory shelf life until filled.

Features:

  • High Performance 310 CCA Output: Delivers high cold cranking amperage to turn over large-displacement, high-compression engines.

  • Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Technology: Micro-porous glass separators absorb all liquid acid, making the battery spill-proof and maintenance-free once sealed.

  • Vibration-Resistant Lead-Calcium Grids: Heavy-duty grid plates resist harmonic engine vibration and physical trail impacts while reducing internal resistance.

  • Low Self-Discharge Rate: Holds specific gravity up to three times longer than standard lead-antimony batteries during standby and seasonal storage.

  • Permanent Hermetic Seal: Included sealing strip locks the battery permanently after activation; requires no fluid checks or water top-offs.

  • Dry-Shipped Fresh Pack (BS): Shipped dry alongside a pre-measured acid container to guarantee factory-fresh chemical life upon initial filling.

  • Made in the USA: Manufactured at Yuasa's Laureldale, Pennsylvania production facility.

What's in the Box:

  • 1x Yuasa YTX20H-BS Dry AGM Battery Housing

  • 1x Pre-Measured Multi-Port Electrolyte Acid Bottle Pack (0.93 L)

  • 1x Permanent Snap-In Sealing Cap Strip

  • 1x Terminal Hardware Kit (M6 Lead Terminal Bolts and Rectangular Nuts)

  • 1x User Manual & Activation Instruction Guide

Application & Fitment Notes:

  • Terminal Configuration: Positive (+) on the Left, Negative (-) on the Right when viewing the front face of the terminals ([+ -]).

  • Direct Upgrade Replacement: Directly replaces standard YTX20-BS, YB16-B, YB16B-A, and YB18-A battery footprints requiring extra cranking capacity.

  • Polarity Caution: Not compatible with motorcycles requiring "L" terminal configurations (such as YTX20HL-BS or YTX20L-BS), which feature reversed negative-left/positive-right ([- +]) polarity. Always verify OEM cable reach and terminal orientation prior to ordering.

  • Broad Powersports Fitment: Common fitment for early Harley-Davidson FLH/FLT and Softail models specifying standard polarity, Buell, Aprilia (Caponord 1200, Dorsoduro 1200), Moto Guzzi, and select Arctic Cat ATVs and snowmobiles.

  • Electrolyte Absorption Rest Period: Proper activation determines the overall lifespan of an AGM battery. After pressing the pre-measured acid pack onto the battery ports and allowing all liquid to drain completely into the cells,do not install the sealing strip immediately. Let the battery rest uncapped for at least 1 to 2 hours. This resting interval allows the glass mat separators to absorb the liquid acid evenly and lets the heat and gas generated during the chemical reaction escape. Capping the battery prematurely traps excessive heat and can cause localized dry spots on the internal plates.

  • Mandatory Initial Bench Charge: An AGM battery is only charged to roughly 75–80% capacity upon filling. Installing it directly into a motorcycle without an initial bench charge will cause premature plate sulfation and permanently reduce the battery's maximum cranking capacity. After the rest period, press the sealing cap strip down flush with a rubber mallet, then connect the battery to an automatic smart charger rated between 1.2A and 1.8A until it reaches a full 100% state of charge (resting voltage of 12.8V or higher).

  • Polarity Verification ([+ -] vs [- +]): Always verify your machine's terminal orientation before opening the acid pack. Standard YTX20H-BS batteries position the positive terminal on the front-left and the negative on the front-right. If your bike requires a YTX20HL-BS ("L" designating reversed polarity), standard battery cables will not reach across the top of the case without severe strain, risking direct short circuits against the frame or battery tray.
