Yuasa - YTX14-BS AGM Maintenance Free Battery

Yuasa YTX14-BS AGM Maintenance Free Powersports Battery

The Yuasa YTX14-BS (YUAM3RH4S) is a 12-volt Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) maintenance-free battery engineered for heavy adventure motorcycles, large-displacement sport tourers, cruisers, and high-output ATVs. High-compression twin-cylinder and multi-cylinder engines demand significant burst starting current, particularly during cold-weather starts or when running power-heavy auxiliary accessories like heated gear and LED auxiliary lights. Under these loads, conventional flooded lead-acid batteries suffer from rapid voltage drop, acid boil-off, and accelerated plate degradation.

The YTX14-BS utilizes micro-porous glass mat separators that absorb and immobilize all liquid electrolyte against high-purity lead-calcium grid plates. This construction eliminates free liquid acid inside the casing, providing superior resistance to chassis vibration and harsh trail impacts while preventing internal plate shorting. The battery delivers 200 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) and a 12.0 Ah capacity while maintaining its charge up to three times longer than standard flooded batteries during off-season storage. Shipped dry alongside a pre-measured multi-cell electrolyte pack (Bottle Supplied / BS), the battery retains 100% factory-fresh chemical capacity until filled and sealed.

Features:

  • Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Construction: Microfiber glass mat separators absorb all liquid acid, delivering a spill-proof, leak-proof design once sealed.

  • 200 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): High burst output engineered to turn over large-bore twins, adventure powerplants, and high-compression multi-cylinder engines.

  • Lead-Calcium Alloy Grids: Minimizes internal electrical resistance, reduces water consumption, and holds resting voltage significantly longer during seasonal storage.

  • Vibration-Damped Internal Plates: Compressed internal cell groups shield lead plates against continuous engine vibration and harsh trail impacts.

  • Permanent Hermetic Seal: Once capped with the included flush sealing strip, the battery is permanently sealed and requires zero water maintenance.

  • Dry-Pack Freshness (BS): Shipped dry with a dedicated pre-measured acid pack to eliminate self-discharge and sulfation before initial activation.

What's in the Box:

  • 1x Yuasa YTX14-BS Dry AGM Battery Housing

  • 1x Pre-Measured Multi-Port Electrolyte Acid Bottle Pack (0.69 L)

  • 1x Permanent Snap-In Sealing Cap Strip

  • 1x Terminal Hardware Kit (M6 Lead Terminal Bolts & Rectangular Nuts)

  • 1x User Manual & Activation Instruction Sheet

Fitment Notes:

  • Terminal Layout: Positive (+) terminal on the Left, Negative (-) terminal on the Right when viewing the front face of the terminals ([+ -]).

  • Dimensional Footprint: Measures 5-7/8" L x 3-7/16" W x 5-3/4" H (150 mm x 87 mm x 145 mm).

  • Dimensional Comparison Across the Yuasa YTX Line:

    • YTX9-BS: 150 mm x 87 mm x 105 mm (8.0 Ah / 135 CCA)

    • YTX12-BS: 150 mm x 87 mm x 130 mm (10.0 Ah / 180 CCA)

    • YTX14-BS: 150 mm x 87 mm x 145 mm (12.0 Ah / 200 CCA)

    • Note: The YTX14-BS shares the identical 150 mm x 87 mm base footprint with the YTX9-BS and YTX12-BS, but stands taller at 145 mm to house the additional plate area required for 200 CCA and 12 Ah capacity.

  • Electrolyte Absorption Rest Interval: Proper initial activation directly establishes the performance and lifespan of an AGM battery. After pressing the pre-measured multi-cell acid pack into the battery ports and letting all 0.69 liters drain completely,do not install the sealing strip immediately. Leave the battery uncapped for 45 to 60 minutes. This resting phase allows the dense glass matting to fully absorb the acid into the plate pores and vents the heat and gas generated during initial chemical saturation. Sealing the battery prematurely traps heat inside, which can bulge the battery walls and cause localized dry spots on the plates.

  • Mandatory Initial Bench Charge: Filling the battery with acid chemically charges it to approximately 75–80% capacity. Installing it straight into your motorcycle without a top-off charge causes premature plate sulfation and permanently reduces its reserve capacity. After the rest period, press the sealing cap strip flush with hand pressure or light taps with a rubber mallet, then connect the battery to an automatic motorcycle smart charger (1.2A to 1.4A recommended) until resting voltage stabilizes at 12.8V or higher.

  • Under-Seat Clearance & Terminal Hardware Prep: Because the YTX14-BS stands at 145 mm tall—15 mm taller than a YTX12-BS and 40 mm taller than a YTX9-BS—always verify vertical clearance under seat pans, subframe crossbars, and under-seat wiring harnesses before torquing down mounting brackets. When installing the terminals, slip a tiny piece of dense foam or rubber hose under the rectangular terminal nuts inside the lead post pockets. This keeps the nuts raised flush against the bolt holes, preventing cross-threading or dropped hardware inside the battery tray.
