Yuasa YTX12-BS AGM Maintenance Free Powersports Battery

The Yuasa YTX12-BS (YUAM3RH2SIND) is a 12-volt Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) maintenance-free battery engineered for middleweight adventure bikes, cruisers, street motorcycles, and ATVs. Conventional flooded lead-acid batteries suffer from fluid evaporation, terminal corrosion, and plate degradation caused by continuous chassis vibration and temperature swings. The YTX12-BS addresses these failure modes with a sealed, spill-proof architecture designed for reliable starting power and long-term durability.

Utilizing Yuasa's lead-calcium grid alloy, the battery provides 180 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) and holds its specific gravity up to three times longer than standard lead-antimony designs during periods of non-use. Its absorbed glass mat separator configuration suspends the liquid electrolyte directly against the plates, eliminating free-flowing liquid acid inside the casing and providing substantial resistance to off-road shock loads. Shipped as a dry battery with an included pre-measured multi-cell acid pack (Bottle Supplied), the chemical life of the battery remains completely fresh until activated.

Fitment Notes:

• Terminal Layout: Positive (+) terminal on the Left, Negative (-) terminal on the Right when facing the front of the battery ([+ -]).

• Dimensional Footprint: Measures 5-7/8" L x 3-7/16" W x 5-1/8" H (150 mm x 87 mm x 130 mm).

• Activation & Outgassing Period: When activating the battery, place the pack on a level surface, push the acid bottle pack onto the filling ports firmly, and let it drain completely.Do not snap the sealing strip into place immediately after filling. Allow the battery to stand uncapped for 45 to 60 minutes. This allows the liquid acid to fully permeate into the glass mat separators and permits heat and chemical gases generated during the reaction to ventilate. Snapping the cap strip on too quickly traps internal heat and can create localized dry spots that permanently limit capacity.

• Mandatory Initial Bench Charge: After the resting period, press the sealing cap strip fully flush using hand pressure or light taps with a rubber mallet. Because an initial acid fill yields only roughly 75–80% state of charge, the batterymust be connected to a dedicated motorcycle smart charger (1.0A to 1.2A maximum) until fully charged before being placed in the vehicle. Skipping this step causes rapid early sulfation when the battery is immediately exposed to heavy starting draws, permanently degrading its service lifespan.

• Terminal Bolt Prep: The rectangular brass terminal nuts slide into pockets under the lead posts and can easily drop out into the battery tray during installation. Insert a small sliver of closed-cell foam or dense weatherstripping underneath the nut inside the terminal pocket to hold it raised flush against the bolt hole. This prevents the bolt from spinning freely or cross-threading when catching the lead threads.
