TM Designworks Chain Guide for the Suzuki DR-Z400 & DR-Z4S

The TM Designworks Factory Edition Rear Chain Guide (RCG-SY2-BK) is an ultra-durable, impact-absorbing replacement designed to eliminate chain derailment and swingarm tab damage on Suzuki dual-sport and enduro models. Factory chain guides rely on thin aluminum outer cages with soft plastic inserts. In rocky terrain, ruts, or log crossings, an impact will bend the OEM aluminum plate inward, jamming the drive chain into the rear sprocket or ripping the welded mounting tabs clean off the swingarm.

Engineered from TM Designworks' proprietary Return Memory System (RMS) polymer formula, this chain guide absorbs heavy direct rock strikes and flexes without bending, instantly snapping back to its original shape. The low-friction composite material is oil-impregnated to reduce chain surface drag, wear, and horsepower loss. Designed with an extended leading edge to guide the chain cleanly into the teeth of the rear sprocket, it features a replaceable lower wear pad to make long-term maintenance simple without replacing the entire guide body.

Fitment Notes:

• Sprocket Sizing: Accommodates stock and oversized rear sprockets up to 47 teeth (larger sprockets may require minor clearance checks depending on chain length).

• Swingarm Mount Insurance: On the DR-Z400, the lower swingarm mounting tabs are relatively thin aluminum extrusions. When the stock metal chain guide hits a rock, it transfers 100% of the shear force straight into the front swingarm tab, often snapping the tab off at the weld. Repairing this requires skilled aluminum TIG welding. The TM Designworks polymer body acts as a shock buffer—it yields and deflects under rock impacts, isolating the swingarm mounts from destructive peak shear forces.

• Hardware Installation Tip: When mounting the RCG-SY2-BK, use the included aluminum collar bushings in the mounting bolt recesses. Apply medium-strength blue threadlocker to each bolt and torque to Suzuki factory specification (typically 9 Nm / 80 in-lbs). Avoid over-torquing, which can crush the internal composite bushings. Check chain alignment by spinning the rear wheel on a stand to verify the chain runs centered down the internal channel.
