NOTE: When you use an adapter that extends straight out from the head of your torque wrench, you are physically lengthening the lever arm. This means if you set your wrench to 30 ft-lbs, the actual fastener will receive more than 30 ft-lbs. To prevent over-tightening, you must calculate the new setting for your torque wrench using the following formula:
TW = Torque setting required on the Wrench
TE = Target Torque required at the fastener (from your service manual)
L = Length of your torque wrench (measured from the center of the handle grip to the center of the 3/8" drive)
E = Length of the Extension (measured from the center of the 3/8" drive to the center of the fastener)
The 90-Degree Hack (No Math Required):
If you don't want to do the math, there is a brilliant mechanic's trick. Clamp your wrench into the Motion Pro adapter, but attach your torque wrench so it sits at exactly a 90-degree angle to the extension wrench (making an "L" shape).
