Moose Racing Skid Plate for the Ducati Desmo

The Moose Racing HDPE Skid Plate offers premium undercarriage protection for the Ducati Desmo450 EDX platform. Manufactured from 6mm-thick High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), this skid plate is designed to endure punishing off-road and enduro conditions while offering distinct advantages over traditional aluminum options. Unlike aluminum, which can dent, deform, and amplify engine noise, the heavy-duty HDPE construction flexes upon impact, springs back to its original shape, and drastically dampens vibration and sound.

Engineered to conform tightly to the Ducati's lower frame rails, this skid plate provides extended coverage to protect critical engine casings, the water pump, and the lower frame from rocks, logs, and trail debris. Despite the comprehensive protection, the HDPE material is roughly 30% to 40% lighter than an equivalent aluminum skid plate, keeping the unsprung weight of your Enduro-Cross machine to a minimum.

Fitment Notes:

• HDPE vs. Aluminum: For hard enduro and technical trail riding, heavy-duty plastic skid plates have largely become the industry standard. Aluminum plates have a tendency to "stick" and drag when sliding over logs or boulders, whereas the smooth surface of HDPE plastic glides effortlessly over obstacles. This drastically reduces rider fatigue when navigating highly technical terrain where sliding the bike over fallen trees is required.

   

• Heat Cycling: When installing the skid plate for the first time, the heavy-duty plastic can be stiff. It is completely normal to have to flex or muscle the plate slightly to align the mounting holes with the frame brackets. Once bolted on, the heat from the engine during your first few rides will slightly soften and conform the plastic permanently to the exact profile of your Ducati's lower frame rails.
