Maxima - DOT 5.1 Brake Fluid

Maxima DOT 5.1 Brake Fluid

Maxima DOT 5.1 Brake Fluid is a premium, 100% synthetic brake and clutch fluid engineered for high-performance motorcycle, ATV, and UTV applications. Formulated with exceptionally high dry and wet boiling points, this fluid provides maximum resistance to vapor lock and brake fade under extreme thermal loads, such as track riding or heavy adventure touring.

Crucially, DOT 5.1 features a lower viscosity than standard DOT 4 fluids. This thinner profile is specifically optimized for modern Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS), allowing the system's micro-valves to cycle rapidly and precisely across all temperature ranges. The advanced additive package protects internal metal components from corrosion while conditioning SBR and EPDM rubber seals to prevent drying and leaks.

Features:

  • Extreme Boiling Points: Exceeds DOT 5.1 specifications to prevent fluid boiling, ensuring a firm, consistent brake lever during aggressive use.

  • ABS Optimized: Low-viscosity formulation allows modern anti-lock braking systems and traction control systems to operate with maximum speed and precision.

  • Component Protection: Advanced anti-corrosion and anti-oxidation additives protect internal master cylinder and caliper metals from degradation.

  • Seal Conditioning: Lubricates and protects EPDM and SBR rubber seals, extending the lifespan of your hydraulic rebuild kits.

  • Backwards Compatible: Glycol-based formula safely mixes with and replaces DOT 3 and DOT 4 fluids in existing hydraulic systems.

Fitment Notes:

  • Universal Application: Compatible with all motorcycle, dirt bike, ATV, and UTV hydraulic brake and hydraulic clutch systems specifying DOT 3, DOT 4, or DOT 5.1 fluid.

  • WARNING - DO NOT MIX WITH DOT 5: DOT 5.1 is a glycol-based fluid. It is not compatible with DOT 5 (which is silicone-based) or Mineral Oil systems.

  • DOT 5.1 vs. DOT 5: The naming convention is often confusing for riders. DOT 5.1 is a glycol-based fluid (just like DOT 3 and DOT 4), making it completely safe to use as an upgrade in systems that originally called for DOT 4. DOT 5, however, is a silicone-based fluid. You cannot mix glycol and silicone fluids; doing so will cause the fluids to gel, ruining the seals and destroying the braking system. Always ensure you are using DOT 5.1 as an upgrade for DOT 4.

  • Protect Your Paint: Like all glycol-based brake fluids, DOT 5.1 is highly corrosive to painted surfaces, powder coat, and certain plastics. Always drape a thick protective towel over your gas tank, dash, and fairings before opening your master cylinder reservoir. If a spill occurs, do not wipe it (which smears the fluid)—immediately flush the area with copious amounts of water or contact cleaner to neutralize it.
