The AMS Sand Snake is a purpose-built rear paddle tire designed exclusively for dirt bikes operating in deep sand and desert dune environments. Unlike traditional knobby tires that dig and trench in soft terrain, the Sand Snake utilizes large, cupped transverse paddles to scoop sand, providing maximum forward propulsion and straight-line acceleration.
The tire is constructed with a lightweight, flexible bias-ply carcass that allows the tire to flatten out and float on top of the sand, reducing engine drag and improving top-end speed. The natural rubber compound is engineered to run cool in high-temperature desert environments while resisting chunking or tearing. It is available in various paddle counts (such as 8-paddle and 10-paddle configurations) to accommodate different engine displacements and power outputs.
Cupped Paddle Design: Full-width transverse paddles act as shovels to scoop loose sand, providing unmatched forward traction and acceleration in the dunes.
Lightweight Casing: Flexible carcass minimizes unsprung weight and allows the tire footprint to widen for maximum flotation.
Optimized Compound: Blended natural rubber compound resists high-heat degradation and minimizes paddle chunking during aggressive use.
Displacement Matching: Available in varying paddle counts (typically 8-paddle for 125cc–250cc and 10-paddle for 450cc+) to match your motorcycle's torque output.
Directional Tread: Strictly directional design optimized solely for forward drive and sand displacement.
Position: For Rear wheel use only. **Yes, it had to be said.
Terrain limitation: Designed strictly for sand and dunes. Riding this tire on hardpack dirt, gravel, or pavement will cause paddle damage and severe handling instability.
Tube Type: This is a Tube Type (TT) tire and requires an inner tube for installation.
Swingarm Clearance: Paddle tires have a significantly taller outer diameter than standard knobby tires because of the paddle height. Additionally, they "grow" or expand outward at high speeds due to centrifugal force. Before riding, you must ensure you have adequate clearance between the paddle tire and your swingarm, mud flap, and exhaust. You may need to add a link to your drive chain to pull the rear wheel further back in the swingarm blocks.
Secure the Rim: Paddle tires generate immense rotational traction in the sand. If you run lower tire pressures for better flotation (typically 8 to 12 PSI), the wheel can easily spin inside the tire, instantly shearing off the inner tube's valve stem. Always use at least one high-quality rim lock (two are recommended for 450cc+ machines) and ensure it is tightened to spec before hitting the dunes.
