We recommend this skid plate for the backroad wadered and the touring rider. The biggest advantage over aluminum is the noise reduction. Aluminum plates often act like a megaphone, bouncing engine clatter and the ping of gravel right back at the rider. This plate will eat gravel and basic road / trail debris all day long but it is not designed for the hard hits.
