The D.I.D 525 Standard Series Non O-Ring Chain is an economical, low-drag drive chain replacement designed for specific applications where minimal mechanical friction is a priority. Unlike sealed O-ring or X-ring chains that use internal rubber seals to hold grease, this standard roller chain produces virtually zero seal drag. This makes it an excellent choice for vintage motorcycle restorations, smaller displacement bikes, or specific track/racing applications where minimizing drivetrain power loss is valued over extended maintenance intervals.
Manufactured in Japan from specially alloyed steel, the chain features solid rollers and shot-peened pins for increased fatigue strength and resistance to chain stretch under load. It comes pre-stretched from the factory to minimize initial elongation during the break-in period. We offer this chain in a comprehensive range of pre-cut lengths—from 104 links up to 130 links—allowing you to select the exact size needed for your specific factory gearing or custom sprocket setup.
Zero Seal Drag: Non-sealed design eliminates the mechanical friction caused by rubber O-rings, allowing the rear wheel to spin much more freely.
Solid Rollers: Constructed with seamless, solid steel rollers for smooth sprocket engagement and extended wear life.
Shot-Peened Parts: The internal pins and plates are shot-peened during manufacturing to increase tensile strength and prevent metal fatigue.
Pre-Stretched: Factory pre-stretched to drastically reduce the initial chain adjustment period after installation.
Variant Lengths: Available in precise, pre-cut lengths ranging from 104 to 130 links to fit virtually any wheelbase or sprocket combination.
1x D.I.D 525 Standard Series Chain (in your selected link length)
1x D.I.D Clip-Style (RJ) Connecting Master Link
(Note: Select your required link count from the variant dropdown menu before checkout).
Pitch Compatibility: This is a 525 pitch chain. It must only be installed on motorcycles equipped with 525 pitch front and rear sprockets.
Maintenance Warning: Because this chain does not have internal seals holding factory grease, it requires significantly more frequent cleaning and lubrication than an O-ring chain to prevent rapid wear and rusting.
Link Count: If you are unsure of your required length, order a chain that is slightly longer than your factory spec. You can always cut links off, but you cannot add them back on.
The Non-Sealed Trade-Off: Understanding exactly what you are buying with a standard non-sealed chain is critical. The advantage is price and incredibly low friction—if you put your bike on a stand and spin the rear wheel, it will spin far longer than a bike with a heavy X-ring chain. The massive trade-off is maintenance. Without rubber seals to lock grease inside the pins, you must clean and lubricate this chain every few hundred miles, or immediately after riding in the rain. It is perfect for vintage garage queens or dedicated track bikes, but it is not recommended for heavy adventure touring or daily commuting.
Sprocket Inspection: Avoid installing a brand-new drive chain onto old, severely worn sprockets. If the teeth on your current sprockets have started to "hook" or look like shark fins, they will rapidly chew through this new chain and stretch it out prematurely. Drive components wear together, and they should ideally be replaced together as a complete set.
