Brunton - TruArc™ 3 Baseplate Compass

Brunton TruArc™ 3 Baseplate Compass

The Brunton TruArc 3 (F-TRUARC3) is a highly reliable, compact baseplate compass designed for essential land navigation. Manufactured in Riverton, Wyoming, it serves as the perfect lightweight analog backup to modern electronic GPS units for adventure riders navigating remote Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDRs) or off-grid trails.

The standout feature of the TruArc 3 is its proprietary TruArc™ Global Needle system. Unlike standard compass needles that drag or stick when traveling outside of their designated magnetic zone, the Global Needle tilts freely up to 20 degrees, allowing it to function flawlessly in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The compass features standard imperial and metric scales printed directly on the transparent baseplate for easy map reading, alongside a simple, tool-less declination adjustment mechanism that ensures true-north accuracy wherever your ride takes you.

Features:

  • TruArc™ Global Needle: Specially designed needle resists magnetic dip, ensuring accurate readings anywhere in the world without dragging on the capsule floor.

  • Tool-Less Declination: Easily adjust for magnetic declination without needing tiny screwdrivers or specialized tools, keeping your map bearings perfectly aligned.

  • Map Scales: Features standard inch and centimeter scales printed on the clear baseplate for quick distance calculation on topographic maps.

  • 2-Degree Resolution: The rotating azimuth ring features clear, high-contrast 2-degree increments for precise bearing acquisition.

  • Ultra-Lightweight: Weighing just 1.1 ounces, it adds virtually zero bulk or weight to a motorcycle tank bag, jacket pocket, or emergency kit.

Brunton TruArc™ 3 Baseplate Compass Instructions

What's in the Box:

  • 1x Brunton TruArc 3 Baseplate Compass

  • 1x Neck Lanyard

Application Notes:

  • Use Case: Land Navigation, Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR), GPS Backup, Hiking, and Survival Kits.

  • Storage: Store the compass away from strong magnetic fields, extreme heat, and direct prolonged sunlight when not in use to preserve the magnetism of the needle and the clarity of the capsule.

  • The Ultimate Backup: Electronic GPS units and smartphones are incredible tools for adventure riding, right up until they vibrate loose and shatter, overheat in the sun, or suffer a dead battery. A high-quality baseplate compass and a paper map weigh almost nothing, never need charging, and will not fail you when you are 50 miles deep into a logging road network.

  • Magnetic Interference: Remember that motorcycles are rolling masses of steel and electromagnetism. If you attempt to take a bearing while sitting on the seat, the metal in the gas tank, the steel frame, and the magnetic field generated by the bike's stator will violently pull the compass needle off true magnetic north. Always step at least 5 to 10 feet away from the motorcycle (and your smartphone) before attempting to read a map or acquire a bearing.
